I'm leaving on a Jet Plane...

Pretty soon Brett and I will be on a couple month hiatus from our jobs and normal life.  We'll be moving around and visiting different cities and sites in South America not staying in one place for too long.

I have this sort of dream or fantasy of buying local yarn as we travel and using it to make something. The problem is, what is that something?  I haven't been able to figure that out yet.  In researching this dilemma I haven't solved my problem but I have come up with some other really cute ideas for small projects.  I'm thinking these could be nice gifts for those that help us out along the way maybe.

KnittyBlog.com offers this advice:

Work fine-gauge projects: there’s a lot more knitting time and value in a single skein of laceweight or sock yarn than a single skein of worsted weight yarn. A single ball of sock yarn can easily entertain me for an entire weekend. - See more at: http://knittyblog.com/2014/07/travel-knitting/#sthash.nrJahvaI.dpuf

I think it's safe to say more research is needed!

... it's been a while...

Back in Blog World. It's strange. It's like I never left and yet it's been so long. And so much has happened. What gives.

Adventures are within close proximity and that has brought me back to blog world, to what a world. Adventures you say, what adventures? South America adventures!! That is right. It is happening.  Something that B&I have talked about for several years has come to be a reality. Bam!

So here is the plan thus far:

February 15: Buenos Aires for two weeks.  We hope to attend a language school while in Buenos Aires to give ourselves a jump start.

Mid to late March: Punta Arenas and Tierra del Fuego

March to end of May (or until our money runs out!):  Peru? Ecuador?

Have any suggestions?  Let me know!

Waking up early on the weekends feel like you get to see a secret part of the day that no one knows about.

Knitting Shenanigans

I have been knitting up a storm lately. It's all I want to do when I come home, on the lightrail into work and well, let's be honest, it is all I want to do at work too.  So when my only 32 inch cable broke mid row, well... it just is kind of driving me crazy to not have the right materials to continue the project.  I contacted KnitPicks and they are replacing the cable. And in fact, they are sending me two of them.  So now I just sit and wait. I have realized how much 'free' time I have when I'm not in the middle of a knitting project. (plenty of time to update a blog even).  Not sure where these cables are coming from but it's been about a week now and I'm ready to go out and by myself a better cable at our local yarn shop. Maybe, I can wait another day.... but I'm quickly caving.

I feel lucky and proud that I am fit enough to go out for a 7 mile run.

New Friends in the Making

Another adventurous weekend filled with exploring a new brewery in the neighborhood, celebrating friend's growing families and a 40th birthday.  On Saturday, B and I went to our good friend's baby shower. Yep, we are officially adults.  I really wanted to make something as a gift instead of going to the store and just buying them an item. Yes, they need lots of new kinds of items, things I've never even heard of, but I'll leave it up to others to provide those.  So I went to my stash and found a charm pack that I purchased on my road trip out to Colorado at a little quilt shop along the way. I finished the baby quilt in just a couple of days, with a little help from my orange friend.

January 30 day challenge

Objective: At least 10 pull ups (assisted) every day
Status: FAIL

I started off strong and was doing the pull ups everyday. And then life happened.  Actually I went to New York and once I got back it just wasn't on my mind anymore.  In fact I pretty much forgot that it was even something I was doing.  I think living life is part of the challenges. Adjusting or moving things around to stay committed to the goal.  So challenge number one was more or less a fail but that doesn't mean I'm stopping.

Since I don't want all my 30 day challenges to be physical in nature I decided for February to do one that will indirectly benefit me... play with my cats for at least 20 minutes everyday.  This came about also because of the New York trip.  While I was gone the cats pretty much drove Brett crazy. So for this month I want to use up all their energy and get them active.  A side effect of a little spring cleaning Brett and I recently did yielded tons of cat toys that were lost behind pieces of furniture or under boxes etc.  So here you go cats, this month is for you and my own goal of sleeping through the night without a pounce.
